Timelapse production, Strabane, Northern Ireland

02 Aug 2016

Timelapse photography Northern Ireland - The making of 'Strabane Foot & Cycle Bridge' from COLIN WILLIAMS PHOTOGRAPHY on Vimeo.

Commissioned by Derry and Strabane District Council, CWP provided both long term and short term timelapse systems to film the construction of the Strabane foot and cycle bridge. Working in conjunction with Fox Contractors, a long term timelapse camera system and 3G modem was installed on top of a specialised 10 mt mast throughout the entire project. The camera system was programmed to take an individual high resolution photograph at set periods each day from January 2015. The recently recorded high res photographs were procesed automatically and uploaded using 3G technology, to a project management web site which was made available to all stakeholders. Those stakeholders were able to view the construction site from anywhere in the world, just by logging on to the password protected website. The uploaded photographs could be downloaded for management meetings, progress reports and media use, without having to contact CWP.

As an added benefit for the timelapse video, our photographers were invited onto the construction site during special days. Again our high resolution cameras were placed close to the building teams to capture unique footage of the important stages in the construction from piling to the assembly of a 750 tonne crane.

The final production consisted of 1000's upon 1000's of still photographs being edited to form an impressive video of the bridge being constructed.
