Aerial photography - Solis Lough Eske Castle, Donegal

26 Jul 2015

I feel very humbled to have been commissioned to photograph the 5 star Solis Lough Eske Castle. Normally I'm at 1500ft, either shooting from an aircraft or harnessed to the airframe of a helicopter but this commission was to use our unmanned aerial vehicle, UAV or drone, call it what you wish.

Solis Lough Eske Castle, a 5-star castle hotel is located on a secluded lakeside estate just outside Donegal Town. A historic building set in a storybook location delivering superior hospitality and comfort. It is the ideal place for those who simply want to relax and unwind. Undergoing a complete revamp to all of their commercial advertising we were invited on site to provide low level aerial work.

The photography session commenced at 6.00AM, just as the sun was rising on the south east facade. Needless to say whilst is was a beautiful morning the sun just didn't perform. Unfortunately there wasn't time to schedule a reshoot so we had to do the best we could. During the course of a few hours we had every image the hotel ask for and some they didn't. Afterward, we were treated to an awesome Irish breakfast including poached eggs cooked to absolute perfection.

May we take the time to thank Paul Shortall, Director of Sales and Marketing for his welcome and hospitality and to Chris Heaney for his introduction and on making all plans on our behalf.
